With fear and trauma, everyday events can trigger intense responses.

We are human and most of us have experienced fear and trauma. For some people, traumatic experiences trigger very distressing responses in everyday life. They re-experience the traumatic events. Thoughts, emotions and physical sensations can feel extremely intense. In some cases, there is no warning when the response will hit. In other cases, there is a very predictable nature, such as driving by ‘the spot’ or on the anniversary of an event. We learn to cope by avoiding situations and we power through when necessary.

Resolving the frozen images and sounds that trigger our response:

Logosynthesis, developed by Dr. Willem Lammers, offers a comprehensive model for healing trauma. By connecting with our feelings, we can identify the energetic triggers – images, sounds and other sensory perceptions. Through a structured process, we use three specific sentences to shift the energy and resolve the trigger. As the images and sounds change, it no longer triggers our automatic responses. We experience relief.

Learn how Dr. Ineke Kersten, a clinical psychologist and Master Practitioner in Logosynthesis works with the method to support her clients to feel better. This is an excerpt from a case study she provided for ‘Thriving in Our Times: From Reactions To Action Using Logosynthesis’ (Caswell, 2020)

This case study is about Emily, who was suffering after being attacked during her evening walk.
This walk is normally her precious moment of the day.
It is meditative and offers her a moment for herself.
The walk has now changed because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She was attacked from behind by an unknown man for no reason at all.
She was knocked down and punched in the face.
Her nose and left ankle were broken.
She had severe abrasions in her face.
When I met with Emily, she was sitting across from me in a wheelchair.
Her face was totally bruised, with a deep purple and yellow color.
Her nose had been straightened in the emergency room.
She told me about what happened.
She got emotional when she got to the moment of the attack.

( The case study describes support using Logosynthesis® )

A few weeks later, we looked back at the situation.
She was doing well, both physically and emotionally.
She could look back at the event with a certain distance.
She no longer re-experienced the event.
