How to relieve fear of bedtime monsters using Logosynthesis® by The Healthy Living Plan

Bedtime monsters can add stress to the end of your day.

Bedtime can often transform from a tranquil routine to a battleground of fears for both parents and their little ones. As children’s imaginations run wild, bedtime monsters and shadows on the wall can take on a life of their own, causing unnecessary anxiety and sleepless nights. One effective approach to conquer these fears and create a serene bedtime environment is to use Logosynthesis®. In this blog post, we’ll explore how parents can use Logosynthesis® techniques to help their children overcome the fear of bedtime monsters and enjoy restful nights.

Logosynthesis® can dissolve bedtime monsters.

Logosynthesis® is a coaching and therapy model that involves using the power of words to identify and shift distressing mental imagery … and that can be in the form of ‘bedtime monsters’. When the image shifts, the accompanying emotional distress also falls away. For example, your child may see a monster in the closet and with this image, may experience fear, a pounding heart and tension in their body. This image may appear night after night, triggering the same emotional and physical reaction. After using the Logosynthesis® technique, the monster may appear further away, change shape to something more friendly or disappear altogether. With the shift in mental imagery, the emotional distress also falls away. And when this specific mental imagery shifts, it does not reappear nor do the fear reactions.

To help guide this process, you can apply the following steps:

Step 1: Acknowledge and Validate the Fear:

The first step in helping children overcome their fear of bedtime monsters is to acknowledge their feelings. Listen attentively as they express their fears, ensuring they feel understood and validated. Avoid dismissing their concerns or belittling their emotions; instead, show empathy and patience.

Step 2: Introducing Logosynthesis:

Introducing Logosynthesis® to children can be done in a playful and engaging manner. Explain that just as superheroes have special tools to conquer their foes, Logosynthesis® provides a unique way to deal with fears. Create a simple story or analogy that resonates with your child’s interests, such as a magical shield that can make scary things disappear. ‘Willy and the Little Monsters’ is an engaging book written by Myriam Nordemann and beautifully illustrated by Christian Del Grosso. It is highly recommended as a resource to guide your process as a parent.

Step 3: Reassurance and Comfort:

After completing the Logosynthesis® process, offer your child reassurance and comfort. Remind them that it can be common to see monsters and that feeling afraid is natural, but they have the power to make scary monsters and other scary pictures go away.

Step 4: Bedtime Routine Reinforcement:

Incorporate the Logosynthesis® technique into your child’s bedtime routine consistently. This can create an opening to resolve other fears, worries and anxieties that occur throughout the day. Over time, they will start to associate this process with a sense of empowerment and control over their fears.

Step 5: Celebrate Progress:

Celebrate each small victory with your child. As their fear of bedtime monsters diminishes, acknowledge their courage and growing confidence.

Empowering Sweet Dreams using Logosynthesis

Bedtime monsters need not be a source of ongoing stress for you and anxiety for your child. Willy offers a beautiful way to not only dissolve the imaginary monsters, but also to create an opportunity to talk about other fears and anxiety with your child. Using this beautifully illustrated book, you can empower your child to use their own words to feel better and bring peace to your bedtime routine. Remember, there will be multiple ‘monsters’ and it may take some practice to get comfortable with the routine, but with your guidance, your child can transform their bedtime routine from a fear-inducing experience into a tranquil and restful one.
