Positive Mental Health using Logosynthesis

What is positive mental health PHAC

What is ‘positive mental health’?

The Canadian Public Health Agency defines mental health as:

“the capacity of each and all of us to feel, think, act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face. It is a positive sense of emotional and spiritual well-being that respects the importance of culture, equity, social justice, interconnections and personal dignity”

– Capacity to feel, think and act.

This definition recognizes that to be healthy, each of us is empowered. We have an ability to feel, think and act. We are not stuck in our patterns but rather there is a flow to our lives and an ability to make choices.

– Enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face.

This definition recognizes that we have an inherent ability to both enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face. This is not mutually exclusive. It references that even in a storm, we can sense peace and calm.

– Emotional and spiritual well-being.

This definition recognizes that positive mental health consists of both emotional and spiritual well-being. Our spirit – our life energy – is what brings vitality to our lives, connects us with purpose and helps us through the tough times.

– Importance of culture, equity, social justice, interconnections and personal dignity.

This definition recognizes that we are human with many facets to our life experiences. In this matrix of relationships is a structure that helps us feel comfortable and connected to part of a larger group. Also in this environment, we can be triggered by feelings of distress and discomfort when conditions are not as they should be – when life is not just and equitable.

Logosynthesis: A preferred model to support positive mental health.

Logosynthesis® is a model that provides fast relief for our distress. Each of us has a many images and sounds frozen in memories which trigger varying levels of distress. Using a simple yet powerful technique, we can learn to apply the method routinely as issues surface. Rather than learning to live with the issue, the frozen perceptions is resolved to feel better.

Logosynthesis® has been developed by Dr. Willem Lammers based on over forty years working with people to heal trauma and anxiety. The work draws on in-depth knowledge from the fields of psychology and spirituality to support surprising results. In a survey of an international group of professional coaches, counsellors and therapists trained in this model, 83% of respondents indicated that Logosynthesis® has transformed how they approach their role as coach, therapist or guide. It is their preferred tool for both professional self-care and for working with clients because of speed of results, neutralizing symptoms and resolving problems.

Calm and focus.

We are all human and we all react in this challenging environment. The triggers to our reactions are not rational and it is important to understand that each of us will be triggered in our own unique way. It can be difficult, if not impossible, to appreciate the intensity of what others may experience when we do not have the same trigger. In our society, our focus is on being strong and powering through adversity to be resilient.

There is another way to support resiliency. When we gain an understanding for the work of Logosynthesis, we can be more compassionate to recognize why people respond in emotional ways. We recognize that mental imagery can trigger pounding headaches, panic attacks and suffering. Also, we can appreciate that offering a precise tool in a supportive environment can allow us to resolve these frozen perceptions and our symptoms. We can be resilient and recover from adverse life experiences.

Seeing others struggle triggers discomfort in ourselves. Our desire is to fix things for them can be well-meaning but can result in further stress. Learning to resolve our own discomfort using Logosynthesis® allows us to better support others by meeting them where they are at and creating a supportive space for them to do their own work.
