Human vs Humane

Distinguishing between human vs  humane

During our extraordinary times, we struggle between human vs humane. There is a call for more kindness and compassion. And yet we observe more intense, emotional and irrational behaviour that often feels angry and frustrated. When we encounter this behaviour, we react defensively.

We seek more humane behaviour at a time when our human nature overrides these behaviours.

Recognizing our reactions

When life doesn’t feel comfortable, we react. When our world doesn’t feel comfortable, our human response is fight-flight-freeze. Our automatic responses are based on our programming from our culture, beliefs and experiences. It can be easy to notice this response in an extreme situation, such as an accident. We may not notice when this response kicks in our everyday lives. We react in the moment and yet we think we are making rational choices. When we feel challenged about our behaviour, we defend or deny to protect ourselves. These can be subtle responses which are felt by those around us. When our actions trigger discomfort in others, they react.

Why does this matter? We are in extraordinary times and we are all experiencing change and uncertainty. We all react. Our response also triggers others to react. Inherently, our response is triggered by our culture, beliefs and experiences. Our response creates patterns of behaviour that further reinforce our culture, beliefs and experiences. It is difficult to feel kindness and compassion when we are stuck in patterns of reacting and defending.

So how do we raise our level of kindness and compassion?

We raise the level of perceived safety. We can learn to interrupt the fight-flight-freeze response by resolving the triggers. Logosynthesis, developed by Dr. Willem Lammers, offers a transformational approach. We begin by focusing on what bothers us. These reactions provide information to identify and resolve the frozen perceptions that trigger us. When we resolve the frozen perceptions, we are no longer stuck in the disruptive patterns of our culture, attitudes and beliefs. Our energy is now available to us to make choices. We can now choose to be kind and compassionate.

Logosynthesis is a model for self-coaching and guided change based on the power of words and sentences to change energy fields. Willem has carefully crafted the sentences based on over forty years of working in guided change. He has developed a fast, easy and repeatable method to help us move beyond our automatic responses. Although the work is simple, it delivers powerful results. We can now begin to shift the programming of our culture, attitudes and beliefs. We can move beyond our human nature to embrace our humanity.
